The Palais Garnier was commissioned by Napoleon III, and the civic planner Baron Haussmann was given the task to build the opera house in 1858. Charles Garnier < the architect > was chosen from a competition held in 1861.
Opera Garnier is famous for its interior as well as its exterior. In the showy interior, the mosaic dome ceiling paintings covering the Grand Staircase, the Grand Foyer and the hall whose ceiling was made by Marc Chagall are very impressive. There is also a small lake at the bottom of the building, which is also effective in the long construction period. This pool is also the inspiration for the (Phantom of the Opera) show.
